Clayton Kershaw is an American professional baseballer playing as a pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers of Major League Baseball (MLB). Now a starting pitcher, Kershaw was selected by the Dodgers during the 2006 draft as one of the most promising high school prospects of the year.
Kershaw spent 2 seasons playing in the minor leagues before making his way to the Dodgers active roster in 2008. At his 2008 major league debut, then-20-year-old Kershaw was the youngest player in the MLB. A left-handed starting pitcher, Kershaw has proved his worth through his MLB career and is regarded in several quarters as the best pitcher in baseball. Since he first made the list in 2011, Kershaw has been selected to appear in 7 consecutive MLB All-Star Games and that is no mean feat.

Clayton Edward Kershaw was born on March 19, 1988, in Dallas, Texas. His parents Marianne (née Tombaugh) and Christopher George Kershaw got divorced when he was 10 years old.
The young Kershaw had his high school education at the Highland Park High School. As a young lad, he pitched for his school’s baseball team and also played in youth sports leagues. He was also a pitcher for America’s Baseball’s Junior National Team in the Pan American Championship.
By 2006, Kershaw was considered to be one of the most promising high school pitchers. He was eventually selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2006 draft. He started his career at the Gulf Coast League (GCL) Dodgers where he maintained his rating as one of the best prospects of the Dodgers and the GCL.
Kershaw played with the Great Lakes Loons in 2007. He was a member of the Midwest League All-Star Game as well as the All-Star Future Games. In August, he moved up to the Southern League where he played with the Jacksonville Suns. He ended the 2007 season still ranked as one of the best prospects of the Dodgers.
On May 25, 2008, Clayton Kershaw made his major league debut with the Dodgers against the St. Louis Cardinals. At the time, he was the youngest player in the MLB and remained so till the next year. Coincidentally, he also made his playoff starting debut against the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2009 National League Division Series (NLDS).
Kershaw finished the 2010 season on a high note which earned him a spot as the Opening Day Starter for the 2011 season. He received numerous accolades including the 2011 Players Choice Award for Most Outstanding National League pitcher. He also became the first Dodger to win the NL pitching Triple Crown since 1966 when it was won by Sandy Koufax.
1n 2017, Clayton Kershaw was selected for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, his seventh consecutive selection since 2011 and the second highest in the history of Dodgers.

Clayton Kershaw is married to Ellen Melson. The duo met during their days at Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas. Ellen went on to pursue her college degree at Texas A&M while Clayton was drafted to play professional baseball for the LA Dodgers. However, the distance between this two did not get in the way of their relationship.
The couple tied the knot on December 4, 2010, after 7 years of dating. The wedding ceremony was held at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church followed by a reception the reception at Royal Oaks Country Club both in their home city of Dallas, Texas.
Clayton Kershaw is a Christian and a member of the Methodist church. In 2011, Kershaw and his wife Ellen embarked on a Christian mission under the auspices of Dallas-based Arise Africa. As a fallout of the trip, Kershaw pledged to build an orphanage home in Zambia’s capital city Lusaka. The orphanage home was completed in 2012 and named “Hope’s Home”, after an 11-year-old child named Hope, whom Kershaw met while in Zambia.
The highly talented Dodgers’ pitcher has continued to support Zambia’s children in collaboration with the Pennsylvania-based non-profit “CURE International”.
In 2013, Kershaw and his wife launched an annual charity ping pong tournament tagged “Ping Pong 4 Purpose,” aimed at raising funds for several noble causes. The couple also collaborated on a book project titled Arise: Live Out Your Faith and Dreams on Whatever Field You Find Yourself. The book which was released on January 10, 2012 chronicles the couple’s life story as Christians and as humanitarians.
On January 23, 2015, the couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Cali Ann. On November 19, 2016, they also welcomed their second child, a son named Charley Clayton.
