Not much is known about his father who had no hand in his upbringing. He was raised by his mother and grandmother alongside his other siblings attending the San Marcos High School where he was very active in wrestling. Being a very athletic kid, Chuck was also active on the football team as a center and linebacker.

Chuck Liddell’s grandmother introduced him and his siblings to boxing at a very young age so that by the time he was 12, he had studied Koei-Kan karate. After High school, he went on to California Polytechnic State University to study Business/Accounting and graduated in 1995. While there, Chuck Liddell also became a Division I wrestler. At the time of his graduation, he had broken some records and set many others. As an amateur kickboxer, he held a record of just 2 losses and 20 wins, 16 of which he secured by a knockout.

Back at UFC, his feud with Tito Ortiz soon reached its boiling point in a UFC 47 match on April 2, 2004. Even though Liddell won, Tito has not forgiven him for blinding him with a punch that made him see black until the fight was over.
