Who is Chris Botti?
Christopher Stephen Botti was born in Portland, Oregon on the 12th of October, 1962. Though born in Portland, he was raised in Corvallis. However, he also spent two years of his early childhood in Italy.
His early interest in music was influenced by his mother, a classically trained pianist who earns a living working as a part-time piano teacher. Chris’ first contact with the trumpet was at age nine and by the time the budding trumpeter was 12, he was already fully committed.
Chris Botti started performing professionally at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, at the age of 17, after he managed to convince his high school authority to allow him to fulfill his remaining senior year credits there. After studying music under the tutelage of David Baker at the Indiana University School of Music, the jazz expert moved to New York.
Chris Botti made a name for himself by collaborating with celebrated artists like Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, Natalie Cole, Aretha Franklin and a few others. He later made his solo debut in 1995 with the album First Wish. In 1997, he released his second album Midnight Without You and his third album, Slowing Down the World, in 1999.
A couple of years later, Chris was featured as a soloist on Sting’s Brand New Day world tour which was an amazing career opportunity. In 2001, the artist recorded the Night Sessions in LA; the album was met with critical acclaim. His follow up albums include A Thousand Kisses Deep (2003) and When I Fall in Love (2004).
When I Fall in Love marked his first top 40 entry, closely followed by To Love Again: The Duets in 2005. Italia, his 2007 album, made another entry into the top 40 ranks. This was followed by his live album, Chris Botti in Boston, in 2009.
After a brief break, the musician made a return in 2012 with the album Impressions, which focused more on his love of melody. This time around, Chris included collaborations with known artists like the country singer – Vince Gill, jazz pianist – Herbie Hancock, composer/pianist/producer – David Foster, guitarist – Mark Knopfler and a few more artists.
