She attended Canisius College in Buffalo and topped it up with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communication in 1991. One year after her graduation, Burrell enrolled in prestigious culinary institutions to hone her culinary skills.

She studied at the Culinary Institute of America, graduating four years later with an Associate in Occupational Studies (A.O.S.). Furthermore, she attended the Italian Culinary Institute for Foreigners (ICIF) where she studied culinary landscape and traditions of Italy.

Anne Burrell has worked at some of the top restaurants in Italy following her studies in the country, as well as in New York. Some of them include Felidia owned by celebrity chef Lidia Bastianich, Savoy. Then, she worked briefly as a teacher at the Institute of Culinary Education. However, the classroom wasn’t where she bargained to live out her career. Consequently, she felt so fortunate when she finally found a place that satisfies her so completely and fuels her true passion in life.

She opened her first restaurant in New York City in 2010 and then another short-lived restaurant in Brooklyn, Phil & Anne’s Good Time Lounge in 2017. She got her TV start as Mario Batali’s sous chef on Food Network’s Iron Chef America in 2005. Burrell has since hosted, as well as starred in various top food shows such as Chef Wanted, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef, mentors home cooks on Worst Cooks in America and Worst Cooks in America: Celebrity Edition.
