A look at her career timeline shows Catherine has invested more years in television movies than films since she launched her career in the early 1980s.

Biography of Catherine Oxenberg

Catherine was born to Howard Oxenberg and Princess Elizabeth of Yugoslavia on 22nd September 1961, in New York City, in the United States. She grew up in London with her family. Her mother (born in 1936) is the maternal second cousin of Prince Charles and Queen Sofia of Spain and also a maternal first cousin of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent. She was born in 1936 as the only daughter of Prince Paul of Yugoslavia and Princess Olga of Denmark and Greece. Her dad is a dress manufacturer from an Ashkenazi Jewish family as well as a close friend of the Kennedy family. Howard, who was Elizabeth’s first husband, died in 2010.

As regards her ethnicity, she is Jewish on her father’s side and of European Royal, Russian, Swedish, Serbian, and Finnish ancestry on her mother’s side. Records have it that her parents named her after one of her descendants, Catherine the Great (Empress Catherine II, Tsarina of Russia).

Actress Catherine has a sister called Christina Oxenberg, who is a successful fashion designer, humorist, and writer. The siblings are third cousins of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge and Felipe VI of Spain. They are also great-great-great-granddaughters of revolutionist Karageorge (Đorđe Petrović), who spearheaded the struggle for his country to be freed from the Ottoman Empire during the infamous First Serbian Uprising that lasted from 1804 to 1831. Catherine is also related to Đorđe Petrović through her maternal grandfather, Prince Paul of Yugoslavia.

Cathrine finished from St. Paul’s School, in Concord, New Hampshire in 1979 and later graduated from Harvard University, after which she enrolled at Columbia University to further her education. She graduated with her mates upon completing her studies. She speaks Spanish and French fluently as well.

Husband and Daughter

Cathrine Oxenberg has been married twice in her entire life. Her first attempt at marriage was with American former studio executive film producer Robert Evans. The pair tied the knot on July 12, 1998, in Beverly Hills, California. Sadly, the marriage was annulled nine days later, precisely on July 21.

One year after the annulment, the actress met a young man called Casper Van Dien while they were filming The Collectors in 1999. In the same year, the pair, fortunately, met again but this time while filming Omega Code, an Evangelical Christian thriller. Van Dien finally won Catherine’s heart (he is seven years younger than Catherine) and got married to her on 8th May 1999, at Graceland Wedding Chapel, located in Las Vegas, Nevada. The actress gave birth to two daughters with Casper – Amanda Maya Van Dien (born September 20, 2001, in Los Angeles, California) and Celeste Alma Van Dien (born October 3, 2003). The sisters have a half-sister called India Riven Oxenberg – their mother’s first child. It was revealed in October 2017 that her biological father is a former smuggler known as William Weitz Shaffer (born 1946). India was born on 7th June 1991.

Casper and Catherine divorced in 2005, after spending sixteen years together as husband and wife. Prior to their divorce, the couple appeared in their own reality series titled: I Married a Princess. The series was featured on LIVINGtv in the United Kingdom as well as on the Lifetime Television channel in the US. Van Dien and Oxenberg also appeared together in the drama series Watch Over Me during the 2006 to 2007 TV season.

The son of a nursery school teacher (Diane) and a fighter pilot/U.S Navy Commander (Casper Robert Van Dien Sr.), Casper is currently living under the same roof with Jennifer Wenger, whom he married in 2018.

Currently, information about the two daughters he shares with Catherine is difficult to come by. As for the actress, she has not remarried and is not in a known relationship with any guy.
