Casey Anthony was relatively an unknown citizen of the United States of America, living in Orlando, Florida with her parents – George and Cindy Anthony – until an unfortunate incident change both her life and that of those around her, including her parents and little daughter.
What’s Casey Anthony Known For?
At the time of the event, Casey, who was born on the 19th of March 1986, was living with her two and a half years old daughter named Caylee Marie Anthony at her parent’s house in Florida.
After Casey left the house on the 16th of June, 2008 with her daughter, Caylee, she did not return to the house with the child. She was reported to the police for killing her daughter and disposing of her body. Why did they come to this assumption? Her father, George had gone to the post office to pick up a mail and found his daughter’s car in a nearby tow yard.
Since it was the same vehicle with which she had left the house thirty-one days earlier, a surprised George tried to take the car back home and then to his utter surprise, realized that the car had a thick stench of a decomposing body. On searching the car further, he discovered that there was a bag of trash in the trunk of the car.
George reported his findings to his wife on getting home and she placed a call to the Orange County police department that same day which was July 15, exactly 31 days since Casey left the house with her daughter, Caylee. The major reason for suspicion was the fact that prior to this discovery, Casey had been evasive about giving Cindy details of the whereabouts of her granddaughter, Caylee Anthony.
When called and asked to give the phone to Caylee so her grandmother could speak with her, Casey would become evasive and claimed on several occasions that Caylee was not around and had gone to the park. When Cindy asked to visit them, Casey also found excuses, claiming she was busy and wouldn’t be around. All these formed the basis of her parents’ suspicion.
The police questioned Casey and she claimed her daughter had been kidnapped two weeks earlier by her maid, whose name she gave as Zanny with the full name being Zenaida Fernandez-Gonzalez. Also, she claimed that she was too afraid to inform the law enforcement agencies. But upon investigation, it was found that she never had a maid by that name. And, even though there is someone bearing the name, her path had never crossed with Casey’s or that of any member of her family.
Months later, Caylee’s remains, which was just her skeletal system, was found around George and Cindy’s house; a duct tape was also found around her mouth. Following the discovery, a trial ensued and Casey was prosecuted for the murder of her child. The prosecuting bench claimed that she must have intentionally killed her daughter in order to escape the responsibility of parenting and as such, they demanded the death penalty for Casey.
Their argument seemed to hold sway owing to the lies she had told when she was initially questioned about the whereabouts of Caylee. In her defense, she claimed that her father had gotten rid of Caylee’s body after she accidentally drowned in the family’s swimming pool. But then, there was no evidence to back up this claim. However, in July 2011, the jury gave a ‘not guilty’ verdict for murder but found her guilty of trying to detract an investigation by lying to the police in the line of their duty.
With her acquittal came rage from the public which played out on the social media. While some argued for her, others believed justice was not served and that the jury seemed not to understand the case in the first instance.
What’s Her Net Worth?
Before the unfortunate incident, Casey Anthony was gunning for a lucrative career. That dream has now gone with the wind as a result of the sad event. In 2013, she was worth just $1,000 as she filed for bankruptcy. Today, her net worth is in the negative of $800,000 (-$800,000).
George and Cindy Anthony are parents to Casey Anthony and they once lived together with Casey’s daughter, Caylee, before she met her untimely and yet unexplainable death. They still believe that their daughter knows what happened to their grandchild irrespective of what the court determined. Meanwhile, Casey has maintained that she doesn’t know anything about it.
During the trial, Casey alleged that her father assaulted her sexually while she was growing up. George vehemently denied any of such occurrences and this further strained the relationship between daughter and parents.
Both parents, who have been speaking out about the fact that they are not involved in whatever happened to their granddaughter, called Casey a ‘fluent liar’. While maintaining that they are not sure Casey may have killed her own daughter directly, they believe she knows what must have happened to Caylee.
Where Is Casey Now, Is She Dead?
Casey Anthony is not dead, she is still alive and has tried to move on with her life even though she has been dubbed America’s Most Hated Mom for the presumed part she played in the death of her 2-year-old daughter in 2008. Casey now leaves in South Florida and works as a researcher for a private detective, Patrick McKenna. She tried to run a photography company but it was unsuccessful as it seems the public has not yet forgiven her.
These days, she has been trying more to socialize as the stigma seem to have been toned down a little (after all, its been over 10 years). She has been spotted in protest rallies, in bars drinking with friends and hanging out with guys. Even though her parents can’t seem to move on, she has.
