Carmella is in one pack an American professional wrestler in the SmackDown brand, a professional wrestling manager, a dancer, model and former New England Patriots and Los Angeles Lakers cheerleader. On April 10, 2018, she became the WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion. Her career is going so well it looks like there’s no stopping the trail she’s blazing. Find out the very interesting things we have gathered about her here especially as regards her relationship with Collin Cassady.
Carmella was born on the 23rd of October 1987 in Spencer, Massachusetts, United States and was known by her kit and kin as Leah Van Dale. In the 1980s and 1990s, her father was a mixed martial artist, a former wrestler, and jobber in the World Wrestling Federation now World Wrestling Entertainment.
She schooled at David Prouty High School, graduated in 2006 and proceeded to study at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where she completed her college studies in 2010 with a degree in marketing. While studying at college, she was already a professional cheerleader working with the New England Patriots for 3 seasons which ended in 2010 before auditioning for the Los Angeles Lakers and becoming a part of their cheerleading squad for the 2010-2011 American football season.
Like most professional wrestlers today, Carmella picked up her passion for wrestling at a very tender age, as a kid, she idolized Miss Elizabeth; an American professional wrestler and wrestling manager who came to prominence in the 1980’s as well as Trish Stratus who also made her mark in the wrestling sports.
Carmella signed her first WWE contract in June 2013 and got assigned to WWE’s developmental territory NXT. Her ring debut came on October 16th against an unnamed opponent tagged Blue Pants. She defeated her on 2 occasions but later lost to her the last time they fought on new year’s day in 2015.
She got involved in a feud that ensued between Amore and Cassady against NXT Tag Team Champions Blake and Murphy. Carmella sided with the former as they fought for dominance in the NXT Tag Team Championship. However, winning was far from them as they struggled to make a mark in the NXT WWE division. The victory she so much sought for herself had to wait till her final match in NXT when she was a part of a 6-women tag team match with Liv Morgan and Nikki Glencross fighting against Daria Berenato, Mandy Rose and her arch-enemy cum constant rival Alexa Bliss.
She got drafted to SmackDown in the 2016 WWE draft and had her first victory against Natalya on the August 9th episode of SmackDown Live. Carmella’s professional career hasn’t been all rosy as she has suffered a couple of defeats against Nikki Bella; Jonh Cena‘s girlfriend, Lynch, and others she fought as a member of a team.
Her career soared the highest on June 18, 2017, when she was declared the winner of the inaugural women’s Money in the Bank ladder match at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view. However, because of the controversy over how she emerged the winner, Daniel Bryan issued a rematch and on the d-day being June 27, 2017, she successfully retrieved the money herself and emerged victoriously as the champion.
On the 28th of January 2018, Carmella entered the women’s Royal Rumble but would, however, start off with a defeat to Nikki Bella, a few weeks later in March she won against Naomi and was headed for WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.
Husband, And Relationship With Colin Cassady
Carmella and Collin Cassady formed a trio with Enzo Amore in NXT. Having to work together, it wasn’t long before Carmella and Colin caught a fancy for each other. They were however split from each other in their profession when WWE decided to create a separate roster for RAW and SmackDown. This saw Cass drafted to RAW with Enzo Amore while Carmella got drafted to Smackdown. The separation didn’t mean an end to their relationship as they continued to be an item for each other.
However, some online reports had it in January 2018 that the two were no longer together citing that Carmella had deleted all their photos together from her Instagram account. While the news of their breakup might not have been substantiated by either of the NXT couple making a comment on it, it is still believed that indeed they are no longer an item as her Instagram posts have been void of references or expression of love or emotions to Colin Cassady also known as Big Cass.
As it is, Carmella is not yet married and there seems not to be any inkling that she will be doing that soon. When she does, we will update you on who her husband is.
