Caitlyn Jenner, no doubt means so many things to many people. For a long time, she has been in the spotlight for being an inspiration to many people across the world. Her initial fame was a gold medal Olympic athlete, then as a member of the influential Kardashian/Jenner household (ie, when she was living as Bruce Jenner).

Jenner’s recent fame is linked to her high-profile transition to female, which rapidly gave the transgender community a fresh voice and also brought their issue to the mainstream. Assigned male at birth, Jenner was one of the beloved track athletes of the 1970s. Today the most famous transgender woman in the world after she publicly came out as a trans woman in 2015.

Caitlyn Jenner’s Background Information

Jenner was born William Bruce Jenner, in Mount Kisco, New York, U.S., on October 28, 1949, to William Hugh Jenner (father) and Esther Ruth (mother). The reality television personality is of Welsh, Irish, English, Dutch, and Scottish ancestry. She had a younger brother who died in a car accident on November 30, 1976, in Canton, Connecticut, shortly after her Olympic Games success. His name is Burt.

She did her freshman and sophomore years at Sleepy Hollow High School in Sleepy Hollow, New York, after which she completed her junior and seniors at Newtown High School in Newtown, Connecticut, graduating in 1968. She had a football stint at Graceland College (now Graceland University) in Lamoni, Iowa, after she bagged a football scholarship. However, her football career was forcefully ended by a knee injury.

Jenner later switched to the decathlon after she was encouraged to do by Graceland track coach L. D. Weldon, who saw her athletic potential. She would place fifth during her decathlon debut at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1970, after which she graduated with a degree in physical education from Graceland College three years later.

Shortly after she left Graceland, Jenner tied the knot with his girlfriend Chrystie Crownover. The two later moved to San Jose, California, where Crownover worked as a flight attendant. She rose to immense popularity in 1974 after she participated and became the American champion in the men’s decathlon event, which availed her the opportunity to grace the cover of Track & Field News magazine’s August 1974 issue.

Caitlyn Jenner continued to do exploits, having attained greatness, until sometime in the late 1980s when she delved into film and television. She made appearances in many productions such as CHiPs, Dirty Tennis (wherein she played herself), Silver Spoons (in an episode known as Trouble with Words), Learn to Read, as well as Can’t Stop the Music (1980), which was her only theatrical release until 2011.

She also boasts of a Motorsport career, having had a successful stint as a driver in the 1980s in the IMSA Camel GT series (International Motor Sports Association). Jenner also tried her hands on business, establishing a company – Jenner’s Bruce Jenner Aviation, which deals on aircraft tools which they also supply to executives and corporations.

Gender Transition

The Olympic gold medalist formally came out as a trans woman in April 2015 in a 20/20 interview with Diane Sawyer, recounting how she had dealt with gender dysphoria since her younger age. But before the interview, Caitlyn used to cross-dress and even take hormone replacement therapy until she started a serious romantic relationship with Kris Kardashian, which led to marriage in the year 1992. It was after their 23-year-long marriage formally ended in 2015 that Jenner took the bold step of coming out publicly.

She debuted her new image and name in June 2015, held a renaming ceremony in July of the same year, and legally changed her gender to female and name to Caitlyn Maire Jenner in September. Since then, she has gone under the knife to look more feminine. Having undergone cosmetic surgery, Jenner, in January 2017, had sex reassignment surgery, saying she has always been sexually attracted to women. Although her transition was received with mixed feelings, she ended up winning awards such as the Social Media Queen award in August 2015, at the Teen Choice Awards

Touted as the most famous transgender woman in the world and the most famous LGBT athlete, Caitlyn Jenner is a registered Republican and a Christian. In April 2017, the TV reality personality commented that she was in favor of same-sex marriage.
