An American professional baseball right fielder, Bryce Harper is one of the most successful stars of the sports and he currently plays in the Major League Baseball for the Washington Nationals.
Somehow, he has remained in the eye of the public thanks, most times, to his games, and a few times for his personal life. Here is all you should know about him.
Bryce Harper Biography
The Washington Nationals star was born on October 16, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nevada as Bryce Aron Max Harper. He was brought up in a working-class family and like so many successful people, his first and earliest influence was his hardworking father who is an ironworker.
He was brought up alongside his brother, Bryan Harper who also happens to be a baseball pitcher in the Washington Nationals and a mentor to the younger Harper when they were growing up according to their father. For his education, Bryce Harper went to Las Vegas High School and from there he proceeded to the College of Southern Nevada. He played baseball in both his high school and college days, winning the Baseball America High School Player of the Year in 2009.
While he grew up loving and playing the sports we all got to know him for, it was in 2010 that he went professional after he was drafted by the Washington Nationals as an outfielder, even as he was more popular as a catcher.
From then on, his career continued to be on the fast rise as he was later brought in to play for the US during the 2011 All-Star Futures Game. He would go on to remain with the Nationals until 2017 when he was given a contract that would see him earning over $21 million for the 2018 season after which he is expected to be a free agent.
His career has been highlighted by many achievements and awards including the 5 All-Stars, 2015 NL Most Valuable Player, ESPN MLB Person of the Year (2016), SWAC Player of the Year, and many others.
Wife or Girlfriend, Is Bryce Married?
The Washington Nationals right fielder is married to Kayla Varner. The two got married in 2016 after dating since 2012 as high school lovers. While Varner is the only woman that the baseball player has been linked to, their relationship didn’t seem to move as planned because they first got engaged in 2014, with the hopes that they would be man and wife by 2015. Nevertheless, they called off the engagement before getting engaged again. This time around it led to the tying of the knot on December 16, 2016.
Interestingly enough, Kayla Varner who was also born in 1992 like Harper is just like her husband, a sportsperson. She played soccer in both her high school days and in her university. Apart from that, she also has many other things in common with Bryce. For example, the two are members of the Mormon Church and it was in the San Diego Mormon Temple that they exchanged their vows.
Their marriage was classic with Bryce Harper wearing a jacket designed with the photos of Kyla. It was attended by the couple’s friends and families, but non-Mormon members were not allowed in to witness the ceremony.
For now, the young couple is yet to have any children.
Height, Weight and Body Measurements
As regards the build of body, Bryce Harper is one person who doesn’t just stand tall but is also well built. With an athletic build, he has a height of 190 cm (6 ft. 3) and a body weight of 97 kg (215 pounds). Other details of his body measurements are yet to be confirmed.
There were speculations in 2017 that the baseball right fielder may be able to hit the half a billion mark as regards his contract or at least, $400 million when he becomes a free agent.
It was also speculated that if he is able to get a 15-year contract, considering that 2018 would only see him at 25 years old, in a range between $35 million to $40 million each year, he may make it to $600 million.
If the deal is achieved, that will help him become the highest paid player in MLB history. For now, however, he has a net worth that is placed at over $13 million. This is as he gets an annual salary of $13.62 million in 2018. Apart from his games, he has made money from others engagements including his endorsement deals.
He bought a $2.7 million home in a community in Nevada in 2016. The two-story house is just another of the luxurious properties owned by the outfielder.
