Disregarding that, Brian has received the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Journalism. He also holds the George Polk Award and the duPont-Columbia University Award which rewards excellence in broadcast and digital journalism.

Brian Williams’ Bio

The American television journalist is best known for his contribution to NBC Nightly News. The famous journalist was born Brian Douglas Williams on May 5, 1959, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, U.S.A. He lived in Elmira, New York, for the first 9 years of his life and later lived in Middletown, New Jersey; he was raised a Roman Catholic.

During that period, he also volunteered as a firefighter at the Middletown Township Fire department. Brian eventually graduated from the school and moved on to Brookdale Community College. But this was short-lived as he transferred to the Catholic University of America and later, the George Washington University.

He did not complete his university degree pursuit – a decision he regrets. After dropping out of university, he took an internship at the White House under the administration of ex U. S. president, Jimmy Carter.

His early work in broadcasting started at KOAM- TV in Pittsburg, Kansas. His first job at NBC was as anchor of the National Weekend Nightly News. From there, he got promoted to anchor of the NBC Nightly News. He has received 12 Emmy nominations for the program and some other notable awards.

Williams enjoyed respect for his input at NBC till his 2003 Iraq War report scandal surfaced. In that report, Williams claimed that a rocket-propelled grenade hit the helicopter that he and some U.S. soldiers were inside which caused the plane to land. He went on for years with the story until 2015 when it was discovered that the Emmy Award winner had falsified the reports. It was revealed that he was not in the said plane, but was in a plane behind it.

It was also revealed that though the plane he was in was also forced to land, it was due to small firearms fired at the plane and not an RPG. NBC witnessed its ratings drop due to the controversy. The network had Williams suspended without pay for 6 months. In September 2015, he returned to MSNBC as the Chief anchor of Breaking News, much to the disgust of many.
