Brian Kelley is an American country singer and guitarist best known as one of the duo of Florida Georgia Line. Brian Kelley is a native of Ormond Beach, Florida where he was born on August 26, 1985, to Ed Kelley and Mary Margaret Kelley who are also parents to his an older sister Katherine Kelley. As a little boy, Brian’s first love was baseball, he enjoyed playing the sport as well as writing. But as he got older and his taste and senses matured, he began to develop a passion for music and an enthusiasm for the guitar. It was also at this time that his sister Katherine introduced him to country music. His passion for the genre grew amid his passion for baseball.
The yung athlete attended Seabreeze High School, where he was a star in his high school baseball team, the Sandcrabs, and at the time, he was also the worship leader at his church. After graduating from Seabreeze High School in 2004, he received a scholarship to attend Florida State University where he would continue to play baseball.
As Brian’s career as a baseball player began to take shape, he got a late notification that he was going to be drafted by the Miami Marlins. He, however, turned down the chance to go pro as it dawned to him that he would spend most of his playing time on the bench. He then made the decision to transfer from Florida State University to Belmont University, where he would concentrate on his musical career.
Brian Kelley’s Musical Career
At Belmont University, he met the other half of the Florida Georgia Line duo, Tyler Hubbard. The two were introduced by a mutual friend and soon became acquainted as they realized that they had common interest in music.
After they graduated from Belmont University, the pair moved in together atook up the reins of their careers in music together. As a group, they needed a common stage name, preferably something relating to where they both came from, Brian from Florida and Tyler from Georgia. So they came up with the stage name Florida Georgia Line.
In 2010, the group released its first EP, Anything Like Me to very little recognition except for the fact that it got the attention of Joey Moi, Nickelback’s producer.
In 2012, they released their second EP, It’z Just What We Do and this time, they got the attention of major record labels. It was in this same year that their debut single Cruise first hit satellite radio on The Highway which sold well on iTunes and also helped get the duo their first record deal with Republic Nashville/Big Machine Label Group. The remix of Cruise which featured rapper Nelly was ranked number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became the all-time best selling country digital song, selling over 7 million, and also spent 6 months as number 1 on Hot Country Songs.
It was under Republic Nashville that the group released its first album titled Here’s to the Good Times, on December 4, 2012.
Since their first album earned the 6th spot on the list of best selling album of 2013, the group has gone on to release two more albums, Anything Goes, which was released on the 15th of August 2014 and Dig Your Roots, on August 26, 2016.
