Their romance which started towards the end of the 1990s garnered much media attention as they looked very adorable together with fans teeming around them.

Without wasting much time, the lovely duo sealed their love in a private but lavish wedding ceremony, complete with a giant cake, as well as fireworks that surprised their guest at dusk. Sadly, the million-dollar wedding couldn’t stand the test of time for more than five years. Even after more than a decade, the real reason Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston resorted to divorce has not been clarified, instead, different speculations have popped up in this regard. Regardless, we gathered authentic facts that would throw more light on the couple’s love story and why it had to come to an end.

How Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston Met

Brad and Jen’s relationship goes way back to 1998. The Hollywood sweethearts found each other through their agents who set them up and they apparently fell in love but tried to keep it off the radar. Considering that Brad was already a world-class movie star at the time and Jennifer had won many hearts as an actress, it didn’t take long for paparazzi to sniff them out.

Their relationship became red carpet official in 1999 when they appeared in public for the first time as a couple. Brad and Jen debuted on the red carpet at the 1999 Emmy Awards. They continued to have fun as an item and just a few months after their first public appearance the lovey-dovey pair crashed a Sting concert in New York City where the actress showed off the engagement ring she got from Brad.

It wasn’t just a fairytale event, the Malibu event cost the former couple a whopping $1 million. While the amount has become a trifling figure in today’s Hollywood weddings (Kim Kardashian knows better), it was actually an eye-popping amount to spend on a wedding in the late 1990s and beginning of the 3rd millennium.

An expensive cliff-top Malibu estate was the wedding venue but they used white marquees (enclosed) to prevent helicopters from taking pictures. The event took place on July 29, 2000, with about 200 guests in attendance. The guest list featured Hollywood stars like Cameron Diaz, Courteney Cox and Edward Norton but the mother of the bride was conspicuously absent. To ensure maximum security, the couple put in $100,000 and dropped $75,000 to have a zen garden look at the venue, achieved with more than 50,000 flowers.

Jen’s wedding dress was a glass-beaded, floor-length, low-backed, white satin and silk gown, a masterpiece put together by Lawrence Steele. The groom was dressed by designer Hedi Slimane in a four-button black tuxedo. Guests were entertained by a six-piece band accompanied by a 40-member gospel choir, alongside Dakota Horvath. Also, Dermot Mulroney and Melissa Etheridge who were guests at the event performed Led Zeppelin’s song.

A lavish wedding wouldn’t be complete with sumptuous food and a giant cake and this Malibu affair delivered on that aspect. There were appetizers like shrimp, gourmet pizza, and caviar, served with Dom Pérignon Champagne. For the main course, guests had crab, lobster, peppercorn beef, pasta, and risotto while the cake was a breathtaking six-tier, white-frosted confection.

To bring the event to a memorable end, Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston spent $20,000 on fireworks which were set off over the Pacific. This part of the event lasted for 13 minutes with a display of pyrotechnic hearts and smiley faces on the sky.

Why Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston’s Divorce Happened

Unfortunately, the picture-perfect couple’s lavish wedding ceremony wasn’t enough to strengthen their bond. Their paradise came crashing down in 2005 when it emerged that they were no longer together. Following their separation and eventual divorce which was finalized in October 2005, speculations went rife about the reason behind the split.

While Brad Pitt’s alleged affair with Angelina Jolie following their meeting on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith took center stage, Jennifer Aniston’s supposed refusal to have kids also contributed to the end of the marriage. However, the former Hollywood power couple made it clear in their statement that it was after thoughtful consideration of some personal issues that they made the decision to end things between them. Jennifer also, cleared the air about rumors that she doesn’t want to have kids because of her career, saying, she wants nothing more than to be a mom.
