Benzino is not only popular for the successful career he has built over the years but much more than that is the controversy he brews. He is an American hip hop media executive, record producer, and TV personality and was known for appearing on VH1 reality TV series Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, his infamous feud with Eminem, as well as his volatile relationship with his baby mama.
The hip-hop artist was born Raymond Scott in Boston Massachusetts on the 18th day of July 1965. He has a mixed ancestry; his mother has a Cape Verdean and German root and his father, Puerto Rican and African American origin. He grew up with his two sisters, Maureen who is a medical doctor and Anita Scott-Wilson, a veterinarian.
Following the release of the hip-hop film Wild Out in 1983, Zino was instantly hooked to the screen and subsequently drew inspirations from it to enter the rap genre. In 1998, he collaborated with his longtime friend and later business partner, David Mays to start the hip-hop magazine, The Source. It set off at May’s Harvard University dorm room as a single-sheet newsletter but has become the world’s longest running rap periodical.
Since 2003, he has had a long-standing and widely publicized beef with the American rapper, Eminem. Such an occurrence is, however, not alien to the entertainment industry especially among musicians and it has consistently served us diss tracks as a spin-off. Just like Ja Rule and 50 Cent, the duo exchanged words through tracks like Benzino’s Pull Your Skirt Up and Die Another Day which was met with Em’s well-orchestrated tracks; Nail In The Coffin and The Sauce. Benzino also released a diss mixtape, Benzino Presents: Die Another Day: Flawless Victory (2003) belittling Eminem and his record label.
To give a nod to the continuing animosity between them, Benzino used his office at The Source to his advantage against Em. He remained the co-owner of the magazine until 2006 when he was forced to resign by its private-equity investors, alongside his partner Mays. After a constant back and forth between both camps, the beef eventually wore itself out with Zino stating that all the drama did, was to slow them down and that if he could, he would have done the situation over in a different manner.
Benzino is undoubtedly, a bundle of talents. He was a founding member of rap groups The Almighty RSO and Made Men where he garnered and honed his skills before going solo. He has also released a number of compositions and albums, part of which are mixtapes, collaboration, and remix; The Benzino Remix Project (2002). His solo albums include The Benzino Project (2001), Redemption (2003), Arch Nemesis (2005), and The Antidote (2007). He is also a TV personality and appeared on the reality show Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta on VH1 (2012-2014) which features the lives and career of Atlanta based rappers, and TV One original series The Next: 15 (2016) devoted to ex-stars of television who are now forgotten.
Though his musical efforts did not bring him much fame, his venture into other arenas did. He is a successful producer and an entrepreneur. Following his exit from The Source, he became involved in another magazine called Hip Hop Weekly which covers articles on urban music, such as rap and hip-hop.

The duo, however, maintained a friendly relationship even after they broke up.
Following his split from Redd, he moved on to Althea Heart aka Thi Thi. They began dating during the season 3 of the series and took their relationship up a notch in 2015 when they got engaged. While fans awaited the news of their nuptials, they were met with an equally amazing tiding, their pregnancy. However, their boat was wrecked before the birth of their son, Zino Antonio Scott Jr. on November 10, 2015, and they have had a series of legal battles since besides claims of infidelity against Zino.

Still, on family matters, uncle Zino was shot in the shoulder and back in March 2014 by his nephew Gai Scott at his mother’s burial. Fortunately, the wounds were not fatal.
His height may not be as loud as his personality is but it does nothing to undermine the height he has attained in the entertainment sphere. Benzino stands 3 inches above 5 feet (1.60 m).
