Anthony Dwane Mackie was born on September 23, 1978, in New Orleans. He was raised alongside his two brothers by their parents, Willie Mackie Sr. and Martha Gordon. His father was an entrepreneur who owns his own wood company.
Instead of towing the path of their father, each of the three brothers decided to walk his separate path with Calvin Mackie becoming a famous motivational speaker while Willie Mackie Jr. is an engineer, leaving Anthony Mackie as the actor.
For his education, he went to Warren Easton Sr. High School before moving on to the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA). He went for further studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA). To further improve himself as an actor, he would later attend Juilliard.
His career as an actor began on stage, but his debut in film came in 2002 when he appeared as Papa Doc in Eminem’s musical drama film 8 mile which was based on the life of the rapper. The next movie that Anthony would take a role in would be Crossing and Hollywood Homicide in 2003.
