Annette Bening Bio
Annette Carol Bening was born on the 29th of May 1958 in Topeka, Kansas to Shirley Katherine (née Ashley) and Arnett Grant Bening, both from Iowa. Annette is the youngest child of her parents; she has three older siblings. Though born in Topeka, Bening was raised for the most part of her childhood in Wichita, Kansas where her family had moved to in 1959. The family would later move to San Diego, California in 1965 after her father, an insurance salesman and sales training consultant got a job there.
Born to conservative Republicans, Bening as raised as an Episcopalian, however, she’d grow to become a Democrat. She got her artistic side from her mother who was the soloist in the church which they attended.
Annette Bening attended Patrick Henry High School where she was part of many school plays, including a production of Sound of Music in her junior year. Fresh out of high school, Annette Bening began earning a living for herself by working on a charter boat as a cook.
She’d later attend San Francisco State University where she earned a degree in theater arts. The year 1980 was when Annette Bening officially began acting professionally. She began in stage and fast forward to seven years later (in 1987), she made her Broadway debut in Coastal Disturbances which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
The following year (1988), Annette Bening decided to dabble in screen work. Her debut film was The Great Outdoors (1988). Two years later, Bening had her big break with a role in The Grifters (1990) which got her, her first Oscar nod.
Annette had a couple of flops in the 90s but remained relentless. Her most outstanding performance during that period came in American Beauty, Sam Mendes’ directorial debut which went on to sweep 5 Academy Awards.
The new millennium came and Annette Bening continued to prove how good of an actress she was with roles in Open Range (2003), Being Julia (2004), and more.
Bening has no doubt been more dominant on the big screen, however, she scored a couple of notable small-screen gigs. The actress earned an Emmy nod for her role in the TV-film, Mrs. Harris.

Children, Husband – Warren Beatty
Annette Bening has been married twice in her lifetime. Her current husband is Warren Beatty – an actor and filmmaker. The duo got married on the 3rd of March 1992, a year after they both acted in the 1991 film, Bugsy. Annette is 21 years younger than her husband, but the age difference regardless, the duo have managed to remain a couple for decades and counting.
The long lifespan of their union comes as a surprise to many because of the fact that Warren Beatty was once famed for being a Hollywood Playboy. Back in his prime, the actor and filmmaker was something of a tabloid fodder – thanks to his romantic relationships with fellow high profile stars. His lovers include actress Joan Collins to whom he was briefly engaged before infidelity tore them apart, as well as the singer-songwriter Carly Simon. It is said that her hit song, You’re So Vain was about him.
Warren Beatty is as successful in acting as he is in filmmaking. His heydays spanned from the 60s to the late 1990s. Beatty is the only one ever to be nominated for the same film as an actor, director, writer and producer, a feat he has achieved twice – first in 1978’s Heaven Can Wait and later in Reds. Eight of Beatty’s films have received 53 Academy Award nominations. In 1999, the Oscar’s rewarded his effort with their highest honor, the Irving G. Thalberg Award. Since the new millennium, Beatty has slowed down in his activity in Hollywood.
Annette Bening and her husband Beatty have been blessed with four children – two sons and two daughters. Before Beatty, Annette was married to a choreographer, J. Steven White. The union lasted from May 26, 1984, to 1991.
