Anika Noni Rose is a sensational singer although she is better known for her acting, both on stage and in front of the camera. She is best known for starring alongside Jamie Foxx, Beyoncé, and Jennifer Hudson in Dreamgirls (2006). She also famously starred in the Broadway production of Caroline, or Change which earned her a Lucille Lortel, Clarence Derwent, Theatre World, and Tony Award among several other nominations.
The enchanting actress is also a voice-over artist, lending her voice to the fictional character of Tiana in the animated film The Princess and the Frog (2009) which earned her a Disney legend status at the 2011 Disney Legend Awards.
Early Life and Education
Anika Noni Rose was born to Claudia and John Rose on the 6th of September, 1972 in Bloomfield in Connecticut. From a young age, Rose was said to have been in love with the spotlight and had harbored dreams of becoming a big-time actress. This propelled her to be actively involved with her high school’s theater department, where she got her first taste of performing in front of an audience.
She attended Bloomfield High School before enrolling at Florida A&M University from where graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater. After that program, she enrolled at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco, California to learn play-acting to further hone her skills. Having completed her education and taken a few roles on the west coast, Rose moved to New York in order to catch her big break. She spent over three months auditioning and waiting for a call back before landing the role of Rusty in the Broadway production of Footloose (2000).
She further landed roles as Cindy Lou in Carmen Jones (2001), and Cookie in Me and Mrs. Jones (2001) before landing her big break two years later when she secured the role of Emmie Thibodeaux in Caroline, or Change. After winning plaudits on her stage performances, she transitioned to film, appearing in the movie musicals From Justin to Kelly (2003) and Temptation (2004). She was at this time beginning to get noticed for her voice which led her to first appear as a singer in the choir in the romantic comedy Surviving Christmas (2004) and then in Dreamgirls (2006) and The Princess and the Frog (2009).
In recent times, Anika Noni Rose has starred in various television series and movies like The Good Wife (2010-13), Bag of Bones (2011), Half of a Yellow Sun (2013), and Power (2016-17). During that time, Rose returned to stage acting, putting in a breathtaking performance in the Broadway revival of A Raisin in the Sun which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
Anika Noni Rose’s Husband and Kids
It is not clear if Anika Noni Rose is married or even to who although she has been strongly linked to a man only identified as Peter as well as the well-respected award-winning actor, playwright, and director, Colman Domingo.
A few publications have reported that the two are a couple, and have been so for over a decade ever since they appeared together at a Japanese restaurant in New York in 2008. The supposed couple have since that time shared pictures of themselves on their different social media platforms, with Rose particularly referring to Domingo as her love, although they are rarely spotted out and about or on the red carpet together.
But do not get excited yet as Domingo might be what you call a gay best friend. The Walking Dead actor has revealed publicly that he is indeed gay and that he and Ms. Rose only share a deep friendly bond. This story gives plausibility to the possible existence of Peter, who we must say, has done a great job in keeping away from the spotlight. There are also no records of her having any children although we cannot say that for a fact since celebrities have been known to go overboard in making sure their personal lives remain personal.
