Andres Garcia Menedez was born in Havana, Cuba on April 12, 1956. His mother, Amelia Menendez was a school tutor and his father, Rene Garcia Nunez was an agriculturalist who grew Avocados, he was also a lawyer in Cuba. He later owned a fragrance business in the United States when they relocated there.

Andy Garcia was said to be born with a conjoined twin, the size of a tennis ball attached to his shoulder which was surgically removed and he still bears the scar till date. His family fled Cuba because of political tension when he was 5 years old and settled in Miami, Florida. His family however established themselves gradually in Miami by starting a fragrance business now worth millions.

Garcia attended Nautilus Junior High School and Miami Beach Senior high school, where he was involved in sports especially basketball. His sporting career was dashed when he contracted mononucleosis and hepatitis which made him shift his focus to acting. He, however, enrolled in an acting class with Jay W. Jensen a renowned drama teacher in his senior year.


He studied and acted while he was a student at Florida International University. He later moved to Hollywood to pursue his acting career after college. He landed a supporting role, playing a gang member in a TV series Hills Street Blues but his big screen debut appearance was in the movie Blues Skies Again in 1983. He was a supporting actor alongside Kurt Russell in The Mean Season in 1985. He was also cast for a role in The Untouchables by director Brian De Palma (1987).

Garcias played the role of Vincent Mancini, the illegitimate son of Sonny Corleone and it earned him a nomination as Best supporting actor for his performance. Garcia’s career was blazing in the 90s as he starred in several highly rated movies like Internal Affairs, Hero, When a Woman Loves a Man, Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead, Night Falls on Manhattan, and Hoodlum (1998).

In his role in the 2001 big screen movie, Ocean Eleven, he was outstanding as a ruthless casino owner, the movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh and was among the top five highest grossing films for 2001. He was also featured in both Ocean’s Twelve in 2004 and Ocean’s Thirteen in 2007.

Garcia co-wrote, directed and acted alongside his daughters in The Lost City in 2005. His voice was featured as Eduardo in Rio and it was nominated for an award for voice acting in a feature production. Garcia has been nominated for many awards and won several throughout his acting career.

She has landed several roles in Hollywood movies like The Lost City and City Island starring alongside her father. Alessandra has broken out into the fashion industry and is doing well as a plus-size model.
