André Murillo’s Biography
Murillo was born and raised in his country home in Lake Forest, California. He was born to his parents, Michael Murillo and Vera Murillo. André, born on May 18, 1990, was raised together with his sister, Michelle. The basketballer started and completed his high school education at El Toro High School in 2008. He was excellent in his two varsity seasons at El Toro and received recognition as Team MVP and the Sea View League MVP. He was also involved with the school’s football team.
After high school, he attended Concordia University where he played the 2008/2009 season. Subsequently, he enrolled at Biola University, graduating with a degree in Biblical studies. He also played there and was recognized as an NAIA All-American.
Weeks before graduating from Biola, he signed his first professional contract with the Hamburg Towers, an elite basketball team in the German ProA league. The fact that he is of German ancestry was part of the appeal that made the sign him. André Murillo would only be with them for a few seasons, however, before signing for the Rostock Seawolves.

As mentioned earlier, Murillo played basketball and football at El Toro High School. While there, his basketball coach believed that Murillo’s skill set was better suited for a career in football. Nevertheless, he still made him an integral part of his team. Murillo repaid the chance by graduating as one of his best players ever. This also helped his prospects on the career and relationship front.
3. He was once stabbed during a fight
André Murillo’s life started to unravel after a first college season at Concordia College. One time, at the age of 19, he was at a party when he got into a fight. The night took a turn for the worse when André was stabbed after being beaten to a pulp by his assailant. He was taken into surgery after sustaining a scratch on his heart and a collapsed lung. Murillo had to undergo five surgeries and endure months of bed rest.
4. André Murillo resorted to drug use
Things got worse from then as André Murillo turned to drugs as a means of escape. Subsequently, Concordia University rescinded his scholarship and he was expelled.
In 2010, he decided to make a change and he turned to his Christian faith for strength. His life finally began to make a turn for the better. He enrolled at Biola University and the coach of the school’s basketball team, Dave Holmquist, decided to take a chance on him. He progressed in sports and his academics.
