Andre 3000 was born Andre Lauren Benjamin to Sharon Benjamin-Hodo and Lawrence Harvey Walker on the 27th of May, 1975 in Atlanta, Georgia. His father was a collections agent while his mother, who single-handedly raised him, sold real estate.
While growing up, Andre and his mother lived in different cities; Atlanta, East Point, and Bankhead, all across Georgia. This means that he attended different schools in all those cities. First, it was Sarah Smith Elementary School, then Sutton Middle School, before he went on to Northside High School and Tri-Cities High School.
While in high school, Andre grew interested in music and began performing. His abilities led him to become friends with Antwan Patton, popularly known today as Big Boi, and the two high school students formed the group Outkast. After graduating, the duo who had created a local buzz around themselves got signed to Atlanta-based record label, LaFace Records, through which they released their debut album, Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994. The album went platinum and went on to earn the group the Best New Rap Group of the Year award at the Source Awards in 1995.
Outkast was at this point riding on the wave of their successful debut album, so, they went on to experiment with a variety of styles and sounds that included elements of hip-hop, soul, funk, and jungle all fused together in their sophomore and third albums; ATLiens (1996) and Aquemini (1998) which both achieved commercial success. In 2000, Andre, who was known as Dre at this time, adopted his full first name and added 3000 to it as he and his partner released their fourth album, the critically and commercially acclaimed Stankonia which featured the Billboard Hot 100 number one hit, Ms. Jackson.
In 2002, Outkast won their first Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for the song The Whole World which featured their greatest hits album; Big Boi and Dre Present… Outkast. The following year, the pair released the RIAA certified diamond, a double-CD album titled Speakerboxxx/The Love Below which received the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Andre 3000’s part of the album featured songs like Hey Ya!, Roses, and Prototype where he explored his singing ability.
Andre 3000 is reported to have a net worth of $45 million. The multi-platinum album selling artist was able to make bank thanks to his very successful music career. Aside from his exploits on the microphone, the Atlanta native has also appeared in a few high grossing movies and is also the owner of the clothing line Benjamin Bixby, all of which has contributed to his huge wealth.

Andre 3000 is not married but he has been in a long-term relationship with girlfriend Dominique Maldanado, an A&R consultant at Epic Records and former music talent manager who used to manage rapper Q-Tip. The two reportedly began dating sometime around 2015 and it has since been reported that they were engaged, however, neither party has come forward to accept or deny the rumors, a typical move by Andre 3000 who notoriously loves to live a private life.
The Outkast member’s previous most notable relationship was with R&B and Soul singer Erykah Badu which lasted from 1995 to 1999. Their break up was what inspired the hit song Ms. Jackson, which reportedly gave a fictional account of their relationship’s disintegration.
