Amanda Schull – Bio, Career Achievements, Movies and TV Shows

In 1999, Amanda Schull was excited to have the honor of being part of the prestigious San Francisco Ballet as a corps de ballet member but she couldn’t believe what came shortly afterward. She was offered a leading role in a movie which turned out to be a blockbuster and put her name and talent on the map. Aside from making her popular among movie lovers, her first motion picture appearance also introduced her to the idea of a new career venture which came in handy upon her retirement from ballet.

Since her ballerina days came to an end, Amanda Schull has appeared in not less than thirty onscreen productions, the bulk of which can be found in television shows. More fascinating facts about the American actress as you read on.

Amanda Schull – Bio

The actress who doubles as a retired ballerina was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, on August 26, 1978. Born to Susan Schull, the sitting president of Ballet Hawaii, Amanda naturally had the stage set for a career in ballet. She grew up alongside two siblings.

Despite her interest in dancing, Amanda made sure to check all the boxes in her academics. She attended Punahou School, in Honolulu and later had John Landovsky as a trainer at Hawaii State Ballet.

After her college preparatory studies, Schull got a scholarship to Indiana University where she majored in Ballet and Journalism. She was 17 by the time she started college and in her second year, she took part in the San Francisco Ballet School Summer Intensive after which she landed a one-year scholarship with SFBS. Her time with the SFBS continued after she finished her studies and rose to the rank of a full-time member before hanging up her tutu in retirement.

Career Achievements

Her career spans across ballet and acting and before she became the popular actress who danced up a storm on Center Stage, Amanda Schull was active as a ballerina.

Upon the completion of her one-year scholarship with SFBS in 1999, she accepted an offer of an apprenticeship by the San Francisco Ballet’s artistic director. Amanda had a career-defining moment when she got herself a spot among the SFB corps de ballet members and also joined the cast of Center Stage in the same year.

Centre Stage showcased her acting and dancing talents and paved the way for more roles in both the big and small screens. So far in her career as an actress, she has been seen in over thirty movies and TV shows, the latter being the most prominent. Her career as a ballerina lasted from 1999 to 2006 and she has since remained active as an actress.

Schull launched a career in acting while she was an apprentice with the San Francisco Ballet. Apparently, she didn’t plan it as she was very surprised and grateful when she was cast to play Jody Sawyer, the main character in Center Stage (2000). Her next film role came in 2007 as Becca King in Women on Top. In 2009, she picked up the role of Elizabeth Mackey in Australian film Mao’s Last Dancer. Her other film appearances were made in J. Edgar (2011), I Am Wrath (2016) and Devil’s Gate (2017).

While her film exploits are not much, Amanda Schull has made several appearances on TV shows with some being in main roles. The same year she debuted as an actress (2000), she bagged her first TV role as Davina Mayhan Van Buren, one of the main characters in My Family and Me. She appeared on the show from season three to nine (2000-2007). A year after her first TV role ended, she appeared in one episode each on The Cleaner and Cold Case.

2009 brought roles in Ghost Whisperer and Lie to Me where she appeared in one episode each, as well as Lifetime TV film Sorority Wars where she played the role of Gwen. She also joined the cast of One Tree Hill in 2009, playing two roles – as Sara Evan and Katie Ryan in 13 episodes. In 2010, Amanda appeared in one episode of Bones and also joined the cast of Pretty Little Liars, playing the role of Meredith Sorenson in 7 episodes that spanned from season one to three. Between 2011 and 2012, she took up one episode on shows like Hawai Five-0, Castle, Two and a Half Men, Psych, Grimm, The Mentalist, and Vegas.

She graced the set of the popular series Suits in one of the main roles (as Katrina Bennett) and has stayed on the show from 2013 to date. She has also appeared in one episode each on Nikita and Suburgatory in 2013 and 2014 respectively. His other TV appearances were made in 12 Monkeys in the main role as Dr. Cassandra Railly (2015-2018) and Murder in the First in 2016.
