From the time she debuted in 1987 to 2017 when her latest album Windy City penetrated the market, Alison Krauss has evolved from a child prodigy to a well established and renowned American bluegrass-country singer, with 27 Grammy Awards to her credit.

This female artist of all time was born on July 23, 1971, in Decatur, Illinois as Alison Maria Krauss. Her father is a German migrant to the United States of America and her mother is of German-Italian descent. Krauss was raised in Champaign.

According to her, she first got involved with music because her mother wanted something else to keep her busy asides arts and sports but little did her mom know she was actually launching her daughter into something bigger than just a hobby or something to do at her leisure.

At the age of five, she was introduced to classical violin which she soon left for bluegrass. At eight, she was already taking part in local contests and competitions, at ten, she had her own band and at thirteen, she won the Illinois State Fiddle Championship and was named by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America as the Most Promising Fiddler in the Midwest.

This properly launched Alison Krauss into her music career. In 1985, she made her debut professionally, appearing on a record album Different Strokes which was made by her brother Viktor Krauss, Bruce Weiss and Jim Holies. The album made its way to independent Fiddle Tunes label and that same year, Krauss was signed to Rounder Records.

Her debut album Too Late to Cry, which she did with her band, The Union Station was released in 1987 and earned them a  the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass in America’s National Band Championship contest. This was followed by a second album within Station, Two Highways, released in 1989 and then another solo album I’ve Got That Old Feeling, which came in 1990.

Her debut album got Krauss, her first Grammy Award, while her second album with Union Station – Every Time You Say Goodbye released in 1992, earned her a second Grammy Award. Irrespective of the successes already recorded, it was Krauss’ 1995 compilation album Now That I’ve Found You: A Collection that got her a remarkable fame and made her a household name. The album didn’t only remain second on the U.S country Chart for weeks but also sold over a million copies.

Krauss has so far released fourteen albums, the latest one, Windy City came in 2017. She is a recipient of twenty-seven Grammy awards. Below is a list of her Grammies.
