It’s fascinating how actors and actresses can portray characters so different from them and hit the nail on the head. A few times though, there’s something about the role that speaks to a part of them, leading to an even better interpretation. It’s safe to say that Alison Brie plays some roles that really contrast her actual character.
So how similar is Alison to the characters that she plays? That’s exactly what we are on today, check out some her most popular roles and by the time you are done, surely you will have a better appreciation of her talent as a whole.
Alison Brie’s On-Screen Vs Off-Screen Life
Alison Brie As Annie Edison In Community
On the TV show, Community, Alison dazzles us as she plays the role of Annie Edison, a community college student who overcame an addiction to Aderall after the loss of her scholarship. She’s very high strung and a
bit of a prude and to top it all up, her over achieving side makes her borderline unbearable.
From what we could glean, Brie is quite different from this character in more ways than one, first, she was pretty open minded while she was in college, the fact that she went to a nudist college alone speaks volumes. She told Conan that back when she attended the California Institute of the Arts, it was a pretty chilled place; clothing was optional everywhere except the cafeteria.
So did Brie ever get naked in odd and public places? You best believe that she did; she recalls that she used to swing upside down on a tree branch outside her dorm room to cheer up her room mate every once in a while. That’s hardly one of the things Annie Edison would tick off her bucket list.
Alison Brie As Trudy Campbell In Mad Men
Well if you thought Annie Edison was a prude, you’ve definitely not met Trudy Campbell on Mad Men. The TV show is set in a different time, when speaking openly about or expressing one’s sexuality was a bit taboo. Then considering that the star played the role of a moralist; you can only imagine how uptight she would be. (Actually, you could just watch the show, but imagining is good too)
This character is quite a contrast to Brie’s easy going, social and witty nature. She once admitted that to play the role, she had to channel aspects of her older sister who is a
tad bit more uptight than she is.
No doubt, Trudy Campbell would have never slept with a gay friend to help him confirm that he was swinging for the other team. Yup, that is something that Brie has actually done, we hope you are starting to get the full picture… she is definitely more liberal in her thinking.

Alison Brie As Lucy In How To Be Single
She is evidently a lot more ‘functional’ than her character in this movie, starting with the fact that home girl is not single in anyway. In fact she just got hitched in a very private ceremony to her long time boyfriend and fiancee for over a year, Dave Franco. So, Lucy should try that out for size.
What is this Lucy person all about? According to National Post, she is a proactive single woman in New York dedicated to using online dating sites as a way to get married. Alison dished out a few of her thoughts about the character she played. She clearly stated that the character is so far from her, but it was quite fun to play.
Being that she has never really seen herself as relationship driven, talk less of marriage driven, the role was quite far from her, ‘ I was focused on my career and acting, and for a long time that made relationships difficult.’ Then along came Franco and things eventually blended.
‘There was never an immediate click, but a year into it, this thing I thought I would never do felt easy and natural. That’s how it should be, unlike my character in (How to Be Single) who is really on a mission.’
Alison Brie As Lainey In Sleeping With Other People
Well, this was a particularly interesting character for sure and she certainly possessed a measure of wildness that one could link to Brie. Nevertheless, the two women are still quite different. Here she is a serial cheater and possible sex addict who forms a platonic relationship with a womanizer (Jason Sudeikis) in an effort to overcome their bad habits together.
Brie is obviously quite comfortable with her sexuality, but she is far from a serial cheater and a borderline sex addict. She said, ‘ It’s actually been very interesting, Jason Sudeikis and I, we didn’t really acknowledge this until after we got the movie, we both made this movie while we are in love and in very strong relationships.’
Considering the fact that they both nailed it, you just have to admit that these people are really good at interpreting characters, especially those so far from them.
