It was directed by Alex Garland, produced by Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich; featuring Domhnall Gleeson, Alice Vikander, Oscar Isaac, Corey Johnson, and Sonoya Mizuno. The story revolves around a programmer who got an invitation from his CEO to administer a Turing test to an intelligent humanoid robot. It’s hard to talk about Alicia Vikander’s filmography without mentioning this movie; it is regarded as one of the best movies and she played the role of Ava.

The movie was produced on a budget of $15 million and made $36.9 million at the box office. It went on to be recognized by the National Board of Review as one of the best 10 independent films of the year and got an academy award for best visual effects. Meanwhile, Alice got nominated for the golden globe, BAFTA, Empire, and Saturn awards.

2. A Royal Affair (2012)

The movie is a historical drama directed by Nikolaj Arcel. It is based on Bodil Steensen-Leth’s book Prinsesse af blodet and features Mads Mikkelsen, Alice Vikander and Mikkel Folsgaard. The movie is a story of how a romance started between Caroline Matilda of Great Britain (Alice Vikander), the wife of the mentally derailed Christian VII (Mikkel Folsgaard), the king of Denmark, and Johann Friedrich Struensee (Mads Mikkelsen), the royal physician.

Among other things, the film got 2 silver bears at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, an academy award, and a golden globe award nomination for best foreign-language film. It was released in Berlin on 16th of February, 2012 and in Denmark on 29th March, 2012. The movie grossed 14.7 million US dollars at the box office.

3. Testament of Youth (2014)

The movie is a British drama film directed by James Kent, written by Juliette Towhidi, and produced by Rosie Alison and David Heymen; featuring Alice Vikander, Kit Harington, Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan, Emily Watson, Hayley Atwell, Dominic West, and Miranda Richardson.

It is based on Vera Brittain’s World War 1 memoir of the same title. The story centers on Vera Brittain (Alice Vikander), a very young and independent lady who forfeited her studies at Somerville College in Oxford to become a war nurse. The movie was initially released on October 14th, 2014 (at BFI). Later, on January 16th, 2015, it was officially released in the UK. The piece got positive response upon its release. According to Rotten Tomatoes, 82% of 109 film critics gave it a positive review, plus an average rating of 7 out of 10. Vikander got a BFI award for best actress. 4. Danish Girl (2015)

Danish Girl is a biographical romantic drama which is based on David Ebershoff’s novel of the same title. The story was partially inspired by the lives of the famous Danish painters – Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. It was directed by Tom Hooper and produced by Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Anne Harrison, Tom Hooper, and Gali Mutrux. It was released on the 5th of September 2015 (Venice), 27th November (US), and in the UK on 1st January 2016. It grossed $64.2 million at the box office on a production budget of $15 million.

Though the film was heavily criticized for portraying not-so-accurate historical events, it is widely recognized as one of the most successful outings of Vikander. It won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Redmayne also got an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.

5. The Lights Between Oceans (2016)

While this romantic drama was written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, it was produced by David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. The story is based on M.L Stedman’s novel of the same title; featuring Michael Fassbender, Alice Vikander, Rachel Weisz, Bryan Brown, and Jack Thomson. The movie revolves around how a drowning infant girl was rescued and adopted by a lighthouse keeper and his wife. After some years, the couple discovered the girl’s real parents and they are faced with a moral drama for their actions.

The film was released in Venice, the United States, and the United Kingdom on September 1st, September 2nd, and November 1st, 2016, respectively. The 132 minutes movie made $26 million on a production budget of $20 million. It received mixed reviews from movie critics, with a 60% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

6. Tomb Raider (2018)

This action-adventure film was directed by Roar Uthaug and produced by Geneva Robertson Dworet and Alastair Siddons. It features Alice Vikander, Dominic West, Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu, and Kristin Scott Thomas. It is mainly based on the 2013 video game of the same title, with some adaptation from Crystal Dynamics’ Tomb Raider. Alice Vikander played the main role of Lara Croft, a young woman who embarks on a dangerous quest and journey to her father’s last-known destination, with the sole hope of solving the mystery behind his disappearance.

The film was released in Berlin, the United Kingdom, and the United States on March 2nd, March 14th, and March 16th, 2018, respectively. It grossed $274.7 million globally on a production budget of $90-106 million, equaling the record of Angelina Jolie’s original film in 2001. It received mixed reactions from critics for lacking creativity and Alice Vikander’s performance stirred divergent views.

8. Son of a Gun (2014)

This is an Australian crime thriller directed by Julius Avery and produced by Timothy White; featuring Ewan McGregor, Brenton Thwaites, Alice Vikander, Jacek Koman, Matt Nable and Tom Budge. It tells the story of a teenage criminal who was imprisoned for a minor crime and had no choice but to adapt to the harsh realities within the prison walls. He met a fellow prisoner, one of Australia’s notorious crime lords Brendon Lynch who offered him protection in exchange for a favor – he must help Lynch escape from the prison by planning a break.

The movie was released in Australia and the United Kingdom on the 16th of October 2014 and the 30th of January 2015, respectively. The 109 minutes film made just $1,411 from the box office. It got mixed reviews from critics; a 63% rating on Rotten Tomatoes with an average score of 5.17/10.

9. Darkness of Truth (2007)

The movie tells the story of Sandra, a student, and her landlady Anna-Lisa, a woman in her middle age. Sandra made a shocking discovery when she read Anna-Lisa’s diary where the woman expressed her outright hatred towards her tenant. Though they have a cordial relationship, Sandra is completely shattered by what she discovered. Meanwhile, Anna-Lisa is busy stealing from her rich acquaintances and getting drunk at the local pub.

Directed by Kristian A. Soderstrom and produced by Soderstrom and Pelle Roskvist, it features Alice Vikander, Maria Fahl-Vikander, Laszlo Hago, Elna Gyllbrink, Maria El Gato, and Shahryar Ghanbari. It was released on the 8th of August 2007 in Sweden and went on to settle as one of the worst movies on Alicia Vikander’s filmography.

10. Hotell (2013)

The story of the movie centers on Erika (Alice Vikander) who went for group therapy and met other people suffering from trauma. Together, they set out to find a lasting solution to their issues. It isn’t one of the popular works of the actress.

The movie was directed and written by Lisa Langseth; featuring Alice Vikander, David Dencik, Simon J. Berger, Henrik Norlen, Philip Martin, Mira Eklund, and Anna Bjelkerud. It got 4 Guldbagge Award nominations including for Best Script, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor.
