Abbie Cornish Bio
Born Abbie Cornish on August 7, 1982, in Lochinvar, New South Wales, Australia, the beautiful model is the second of her parents five children – three boys and two girls. Their parents are Barry and Shelley Cornish. Her birth sign is Leo and she also goes by the rap name Dusk or MC Dusk. Having being born in Australia, her nationality is Australian and she belongs to the white ethnicity. Abbie grew up on a farm in Newcastle, New South Wales where she fell in love with animals. So deep was her love for animals, that she became a vegetarian and would no more eat meat in advocacy for animal protection. And even though she would rescind her decision to be a vegetarian after a while (in later years), she remained a champion for the save-the-animal cause.
In 2016, Abbie took it a step further by becoming an ambassador for the animal protection group, Voiceless, with whom she has made concerted efforts to see that animals are protected and treated with a little more dignity. She could be seen speaking about this in the interviews she grants at open events. Her parents were divorced when she was 16 and she felt it was better for them to separate than to have a dysfunctional family while still trying to live together
Abbie picked up interest in modelling at the age of 13 after making it to the finals of a Dolly Magazine competition. She then tried her hands on acting when she was 15 and her first acting job was on the Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) TV series Children’s Hospital in 1997. She also featured regularly in the crime TV series, Wildside, which earned her not only the Young Actor’s Award from the Australian Film Institute in 1999 but also a role in what would be her film debut in 2000 with The Monkey’s Mask. From then on, she became an instant hit, playing roles after roles and featuring in several films and TV shows. Some of her films and TV series are Outriders (2001), Horseplay (2003), Somersault (2004), Candy (2006), A Good Year (2006), Stop-Loss (2008), Bright Star (2009), Sucker Punch (2011), Seven Psychopaths (2012), RoboCop (2014), Lavender (2016) Geostorm (2017), Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017).
Abbie has also won several awards and nominations for her decent efforts in the film industry. Her first nomination and award in a film came for her role in the 2004 film, Somersault, where she played the role of a runaway teenager. She won the awards from the Australian Film Institute, the Inside Film Award and the Film Critics Circle of Australia for Best Actress and she also won the Miami Film Festival Breakthrough Award. Her performance in Bright Star (2009) earned her nine nominations for Best Actress – including International Cinephile Society Award, San Diego Film Critics Society Award (two of which she came out as runner-up), British Independent Film Award, Australian Film Institute Award, National Society of Film Critics Award, Chicago Film Critics Association Award – and one for Actress of the Year – London Film Critics Circle Award.
Let us not forget that Abbie Cornish is a rapper too. She goes by the stage name, Dusk and surfaced on the rap scene in 2000. She has two popular songs which she released in 2015 – Way Back Home and Evolve which featured Jane Tyrrell. She has also authored a soon-to-be-published book on cooking. As the affair filtered into the media space, it attracted a lot of negative press because Ryan Phillippe at the time was married to Hollywood’s sweetheart and actress, Reese Witherspoon and that didn’t look so good for her (Abbie Cornish) career. And even though the rumour was initially denied, the duo ended up in a relationship after Ryan’s divorce from his wife of seven years.
